Created by and for people who live in intentional communities, the convergence has two core goals- to build stronger relationships between intentional communities, and to guide the networks & organizations supporting ICs on how to best serve member communities.
What is the CIC?
The Convergence of Intentional Communities (CIC) is a movement building event, co-organized by the Twin Oaks Communities Conference and the Foundation for Intentional Community.
The Convergence of Intentional Communities has two core goals- to build stronger relationships between intentional communities, and to guide the various organizations and networks in this field on how to best serve member communities. Our vision is to move the IC movement forward! If you have wanted to have more influence on how communities interact with each other, building a wider network to address common challenges and celebrate successes, this event is for you.
The convergence is a highly experiential and engaging gathering. Identifying focus groups, processes for organizing and outcomes, along with curating activities and workshops will depend on everyone’s participation in a dynamic, and democratic process called Open Space Technology. Our facilitators will provide a structure while all participants will contribute to the curation of content. For this reason, we encourage you to review the schedule, familiarize yourself with key terms, and think of what gifts you have to contribute to the gathering!
Who is it for?
Anyone who lives in an intentional community and wants to have more influence on how communities interact with each other.
When?
September 1-4, 2025. A basic schedule overview is available on our Convergence Program page. The Convergence begins at 1pm on Monday September 1st and ends with breakfast at 8am on Thursday, September 4th.
Where?
The CIC is hosted by Twin Oaks Intentional Community at their beautiful rustic conference site in Louisa, Virginia.
Why?
Our hope is this convergence will help us build stronger relationships between ICs, especially between communities with similar values but diverse approaches to living those values. Now, more than ever, systems of mutual support are necessary to move our culture towards cooperation. We aim to provide a platform where these systems can be self-organized and fostered beyond the convergence.
How much does it cost?
Regular adult tickets are $160, youth ages 6-17 are $60, kids 5 and under are free.
Your ticket includes a tent campsite, all programming and activities at the CIC, co-op child-care, and 3 delicious home-cooked meals each day made with locally grown and raised ingredients.
What else should I know?
All adult attendees are expected to contribute 2 hours of work during the convergence, and to bring a snack or drink option to share (or pay a $20 “not bringing food” supplement, if physically transporting food would be difficult). No-one is turned away for lack of funds, if ticket cost is a barrier to you please see our work exchange ticket page. Still have questions?
