List of curated Communities Conference workshops & presenter bios available now!

We’re excited to announce our slate of accepted presenters for 2024! Please keep in mind this is our best estimate at this point and things can change- presenters get sick, a family member needs help, a positive covid test, etc. The workshops and presenter bios are available on our workshops page here, the program will be available on our Program page around August 27th

Contribute to the Auction, and here’s info from the FIC on how to contribute and how to get ready to bid!

As one of the Twin Oaks Community Conference events, we will be holding a fast-paced, high-energy benefit auction for the Foundation for Intentional Community and Twin Oaks. Proceeds will help the FIC continue to bring the exciting news of intentional community to a world hungry for it, and help Twin Oaks rebuild after the fire. You can help in two ways: 1) Bring items to donate to the auction, and 2) come ready to take part in bidding (credit cards, cash, and digital forms such as Venmo and PayPal are all welcome). Want more details? Check out the 2024 auction page on our website. To send auction items, and for questions regarding the auction, send inquiries to harvey@ic.org.

Stay after the end of the Twin Oaks Communities Conference for the first Convergence of Intentional Communities

New in 2024, in cooperation with the Foundation for Intentional Community, we are proud to present the first annual Convergence of Intentional Communities (CIC), September 2-4, 2024.

Created by and for people who live in intentional communities, the convergence has two core goals- to build stronger relationships between intentional communities, and to guide the networks & organizations supporting ICs on how to best serve member communities. Check out our Invitation, our Convergence Basics page, our blog post dreaming about what could come out of a successful Convergence, the Eventbrite ticket page at convergence2024.eventbrite.com, and new! Join the Convergence of Intentional Communities What’s app group!

If you know you are very likely and/or certain you are going to attend the CIC but do not yet have a ticket, please note than on the facebook event, drop us an email us at conference@twinoaks.org to RSVP, or just grab your ticket on Eventbrite. This is a new event, and knowing how many people are planning to attend helps us to better organize our menu, program, and other logistics. You’re welcome to purchase your Convergence ticket on site, but having a heads up helps us prepare. We’ll never complain about having a bigger event than expected, but having a heads up means we can get our ducks in a row to provide attendees a more relaxed experience. Online ticket sales for both events ends August 29th, but you’re always welcome to buy your ticket after you arrive on site.

Not able to come this year, but want to know about 2025’s events? Follow Twin Oaks Community on Eventbrite and you’ll be automatically notified about our events being posted and tickets going on sale.

We need cooks, especially for the Convergence

We are still in search of a few honchos (lead chefs) for a few meals You’ll have support from our food lead, an awesome menu to work from (vegetarian & vegan chefs are especially welcome), and prep cook helpers to assist with chopping, prepping, etc. If you’re interested in helping (but not being a meal lead) you can sign up for kitchen shifts at registration when you arrive. Drop us an email at conference@twinoaks.org

Rideshare forms and mass transit pickup requests

If you are coming from more than an hour away and have an extra seat in your vehicle, or if you are looking for a ride, please fill out our Ride Share form.  We can help you coordinate getting to the conference site from Charlottesville and Richmond, as well, if you are arriving by public transport, train, bus, or airplane.

Fire Recovery continues to go well- check out this article in Cville Weekly

It’s been just over 5 months since a wildfire completely destroyed the TO conference site on March 20, and even I (a chronically overcommitted optimist) am amazed and grateful at what we’ve accomplished. Our conference site genuinely could not have recovered this quickly without your support- from cash, to sweat equity, to skill shares, to loans of tools and vehicles and kitchen appliances- thank you.

The Queer Gathering (one of very few LGBTQIA+ events in this region, and like all TO events no-one is turned away for lack of funds) and Women’s Gatherings took place as scheduled to rave reviews. They’ve been champs at helping shake down the site as we put our repairs and rebuilds into service.

Check out this article in Cville Weekly (the Charlottesville alternative weekly) to read more about the fire and the recovery. The article explores how this has changed (for the better) the way some Oakers relate to their neighbors and vice versa- even those Oakers who have lived at Twin Oaks for decades in the article Louisa’s Twin Oaks commune recovers from devastating 227-acre fire
