The March 20 fire

As you may have heard, Twin Oaks Community was impacted by the devastating 450-acre W Old Mountain Rd wildfire on March 20. The people, pets, and farm animals who live at Twin Oaks are all safe, as are the residential buildings. But the fire destroyed the conference site entirely, as well as the EC warehouse and most of the other buildings & industrial infrastructure up at the EC site.

Conference Site Repair Updates and Work Weekends

Cleanup and repairs are progressing on schedule, and we expect the site to be ready for use by August 1st for the start of Twin Oak’s conference season. Work weekends are scheduled for late May and mid June, we’re actively seeking volunteers for those events.. For details on work weekends, ways you can contribute to the repairs (both financial and non), and more details on Twin Oaks’ overall recovery process, check out Update 1 on Pax’s blog.

Yes the conferences will happen

While rebuilding the conference site will take time, effort, and (of course) money, we expect the site to be ready by August 1, 2024 for Twin Oaks’ usual schedule of summer events. This includes the Twin Oaks Queer Gathering August 2-4, the Twin Oaks Women’s Gathering, and the Twin Oaks Communities Conference August 30-September 2- plus a new event for 2024, the Convergence of Intentional Communities September 2-4th!

A New Event – The Convergence of Intentional Communities

The FIC and Twin Oaks are proud to announce a new event this year called the Convergence of Intentional Communities (CIC, pronounced “Kick”) September 2-4th.  This event is designed especially for people who are currently living in intentional communities to address their problems and needs.  It will be held immediately after the Communities Conference on the same site.  The FIC hopes both to get direction from member communities and build on-going work groups from this initial meeting.  This event is also designed to build direct relationships between intentional communities

Tickets go on sale May 17th

Early Buy ticket sales begin on May 17th and offer a 20% discount through June 30th. On July 1st, ticket prices increase to regular rates. Full details on rates, work exchange tickets, and other event details are on the Rates page of the TOCC website. Tickets to the Twin Oaks Communities Conference are available here, and to the Convergence of Intentional Communities are available here

For those concerned about purchasing tickets while repairs are still underway, please note that our payment processing partner Eventbrite holds ticket costs in escrow. It is transferred to us 7 business days after the event begins. In the very unlikely event that the conference is canceled, your ticket costs will either be refunded by Twin Oaks, or (if that doesn’t happen in a timely fashion) automatically be refunded by Eventbrite.
